Scattered across it are folk blossoms and small woven creatures in periwinkle, wisteria, sage, dove grey, apricot and marigold, framed by a deep pine-teal border with an ivory guard stripe and a woven ribbon band.

Handmade Craftsmanship

Woven by hand in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur weaving belt of India using the Turkish Ghiordes knot — the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak pile. Ten stages separate raw fleece from finished rug: sorting, carding, spinning, dyeing, graphing, knotting, washing, stretching, hand-clipping and finishing.

Hallway: 2.5x13 covers a long corridor in one piece. Round and square formats from 4x4 to 8x8 suit a breakfast nook or entry.

Care

Weekly vacuuming with the beater bar off, spills blotted rather than rubbed, and a 180° rotation once a year. A wool-safe professional wash every 3–5 years is enough for a lifetime, and a felt-and-rubber pad protects the foundation.

FAQs

Why does the red vary across the field?
That is abrash — small-batch dyeing. It is the clearest signal of a genuinely hand-made rug and the reason this terracotta has depth where a printed rust sits flat.

Will terracotta clash with warm wood floors?
No. The pine-teal border creates enough separation that the rug reads as a distinct object rather than dissolving into oak or walnut.

How is this different from a washable printed Oushak?
Entirely. Those are printed polyester on a latex or rubber backing. This is hand-tied wool on cotton with no backing at all, which is why it can be reversed, repaired and passed on.

Is it safe for kids and pets?
Yes — 100% natural wool, no latex, no synthetic blend. Wool's natural lanolin also makes the surface genuinely stain-resistant.
