Utterly unique and hand-knotted from 100% pure New Zealand wool — this Dusty Rose & Burgundy Oushak area rug brings a rare folk-art energy to any space, its blush-rose field animated by large, painterly fish in deep burgundy, brown, caramel, and navy blue, creating a one-of-a-kind conversation piece that no other rug on your street will match.

Why This Rug Works in Your Room

  • Artful and completely one-of-a-kind: The folk art fish motif is drawn from ancient Persian pictorial rug traditions — each fish is rendered with distinct patterning, making this rug as much a textile artwork as a floor covering.
  • Warm, muted palette that goes with everything: The dusty rose field sits in a neutral-warm tonal family that complements earthy terracotta, sage green, cream, dark walnut, and raw linen — contemporary and bohemian spaces alike.
  • A talking point in every room: Whether in a living room, dining room, or studio, this rug immediately anchors attention and invites questions — perfect for those who love interiors that tell a story.

Perfect For Every Room

In a living room, the 8x10 or 9x12 ft size makes a bold bohemian statement beneath a linen sofa and rattan armchairs. In a bedroom, the 5x8 or 6x9 ft size brings warmth and personality beneath a platform bed with white bedding. In a dining room, the 10x14 ft seats a generous table in artful style. For entryways, the 2x3 or 3x5 ft makes an unforgettable first impression. Also beautiful in studios, sunrooms, and eclectic home offices.

Handmade Craftsmanship

Every knot in this rug is tied by hand by master weavers in Bhadohi-Mirzapur, India's most revered rug-weaving region. The process spans approximately 45 days and 10 stages — from hand-carding the 100% pure New Zealand wool, to hand-spinning the yarn, to tying each individual knot on the loom, to hand-washing and sun-drying the finished piece. The result is a rug knotted at 90–100 KPSI (knots per square inch), giving it exceptional pile depth and durability that improves with age. The natural abrash (tonal variation) in the dusty rose field is a hallmark of genuine hand-knotted work. There is no backing — the weave itself is the structure — and the fringe is an integrated extension of the foundation warp, not glued on.

Where to Put It

The 9x12 ft size is especially powerful in a dining room or living room where you want the rug to carry the visual weight of the space. In a bedroom, the 6x9 ft centred under a queen or king bed lets the fish motif peek out on three sides. The blush-rose palette pairs beautifully with mid-century modern walnut furniture, sage linen curtains, rattan accessories, and terracotta accent pieces.

Care

Rotate the rug 180° every 6–12 months for even wear. Vacuum gently on low suction without a beater bar. For spills, blot immediately with a clean dry cloth — do not rub. Professional hand-washing is recommended every 2–3 years. This rug will only grow more beautiful with age and gentle care.

FAQs

Q: What size fits best under a king bed?
A: For a king bed, we recommend the 9x12 ft — this allows 24–30 inches of rug on both sides and at the foot of the bed. If the room is smaller, the 8x10 ft works well with the rug starting at the base of the bed. For just the foot of the bed, a 3x5 ft or 4x6 ft is ideal.

Q: Is this rug 100% pure New Zealand wool and fully hand-knotted?
A: Yes — without exception. Every single fibre is 100% pure New Zealand wool, and every knot is tied by hand on a traditional loom. There are no blends, no synthetics, and no machine processes of any kind in its construction.

Q: Will the colours fade over time?
A: New Zealand wool is naturally colour-fast and resistant to fading. The natural vegetable and mineral dyes used in this rug are colourfast under normal indoor light conditions. Avoid prolonged direct harsh sunlight and the rug will retain its warmth and depth for generations.
