Slate Blue Square Oushak Rug | Hand-Knotted Wool Area Rug with Brick Red Border

Blue that behaves like a neutral. A weathered slate-blue ground — the colour of denim washed a hundred times — carries a loose, wandering Oushak garden: angular blossoms in ochre, plum and teal, curling ivory vines, and small stylised creatures tucked into the drawing for anyone who looks twice. A deep brick red border frames the whole composition in classic Anatolian order.
Why Slate Blue Works in 2026 Interiors
The cool greys of the last decade have gone, and the colours replacing them are the ones that read as warm and lived-in. Slate blue is the quiet member of that group: saturated enough to be a real colour, muted enough to sit under any furniture you already own. It settles against white oak and walnut floors, cream linen, rattan and unlacquered brass without competing with a single one of them.
- Blue-and-rust is the oldest colour pairing in Anatolian weaving and still the most forgiving
- Allover botanical Oushak field, framed by a meander border and striped guard bands
- Multi-colour ground hides everyday soil far better than a solid pale rug
Handmade Craftsmanship
Knotted by hand on a traditional loom by master weavers in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur weaving belt of India. Production time depends on size and colour count — an allover botanical like this takes longer than a simple two-tone geometric.
- 100% New Zealand wool pile on a cotton foundation
- Approx. 100 KPSI · low pile · no latex or cloth backing
- Integrated fringe, part of the warp, never sewn on
- Natural abrash across the pile is hand-dyeing, not a flaw

Where to Put It
Square rooms: the format shown. An 8x8 holds a four-seat conversation group with front legs on; a 7x7 suits a bay window or reading corner. Living room: 8x10 for front legs on the rug, 9x12 or 10x14 for all legs on. Dining room: size up to 9x12 so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. Bedroom: 8x10 under a queen, 9x12 under a king. Hallway: 2.5x10 or 3x15 runner in the same drawing.
The photographs show the square format. In rectangular, round and runner sizes the pattern is redrawn to scale on the loom rather than cropped, so the balance of field and border stays correct at every proportion.
Custom Sizes & Trade Orders

Care
Vacuum weekly without a beater bar, rotate every 6–12 months for even wear, blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth, and use a rug pad to prevent slipping and extend the life of the pile. Professional wool-safe wash every 3–5 years.
FAQs
Is this hand-knotted or machine-made?
Hand-knotted. The pattern is visible on the reverse in knot form and there is no backing of any kind — the surest test of authentic construction.
Will the blue look the same in my room?
Hand-dyed wool carries natural abrash, a gentle striation of tone across the field. It is the mark of hand-work, and it is what stops a large blue field from looking flat under lamplight.
Is it suitable for a dining room?
Yes. The dense ~100 KPSI pile and busy multi-colour field are forgiving of chairs and daily traffic.
Is it safe for kids and pets?
Yes — 100% natural wool, no latex backing, no synthetic blend.
Do you ship to the USA?
Yes — shipped worldwide from our workshop in India with tracked delivery to all 50 states. See our shipping policy and returns policy.
