Midnight navy, and not one flat inch of it. The field is a deep indigo that runs to ink at the borders and opens to slate through the centre — natural abrash, the mark of wool dyed in small separate batches. Over it drift stepped rosettes, small cartouches and serrated star-forms in petrol teal, antique gold, moss green, aubergine plum, crimson and cream, framed by a wide palmette-and-vine border with rosette guard stripes.

Why Midnight Navy Works in 2026 Interiors

Dark rooms came back and stayed. Hague Blue, Naval, Brinjal — the paint companies committed, and the floors underneath them have been the missing piece. A dark room needs a rug with pattern and depth or the whole scheme collapses into a cave. This is that rug: saturated enough to hold its own against a painted wall, drawn finely enough to reward standing over it.

  • Carries all three of Pinterest's 2026 colours at once — Cool Blue, Jade and Plum Noir
  • Aligns with Patina Blue, Etsy's 2026 Color of the Year
  • A dark ground hides traffic and soil that would broadcast on any ivory rug within a year
  • Flatters brass, walnut, aged leather, oxblood and cream plaster equally

Handmade Craftsmanship

Woven by hand in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur weaving belt of India using the Turkish Ghiordes knot — the symmetrical double knot that gives Anatolian and Oushak rugs their dense, upright pile. Ten stages separate raw fleece from a finished rug: sorting, carding, spinning, dyeing, graphing, knotting, washing, stretching, hand-clipping and finishing.

  • 100% New Zealand wool pile on a cotton foundation
  • Approx. 100 KPSI · low pile · no latex or cloth backing
  • Fully reversible — rotate and flip to spread wear across decades
  • Integrated fringe, part of the warp, never sewn on
  • Low-shedding from the first week, not after a year of vacuuming

Where to Put It

Living room: 8x10 for front legs on, 10x14 for all legs on. Dining room: 9x12 gives 24–30in of clearance around a 72–84in table so chairs stay on wool when guests push back — and a dark ground is the practical choice under a table. Study or library: 8x10 against dark timber and full shelves; 5x8 under a desk and chair. Bedroom: 9x12 under a king, 8x10 under a queen. Hallway: 2.5x13 covers a long corridor in one piece where 8- and 10-foot runners leave a seam. Round and square formats from 4x4 to 8x8 suit a breakfast nook or entry table.

Custom Sizes & Trade Orders

Because each rug is graphed for your order, a custom width or length simply changes the drawing, not the craft. Every size and shape in this design is made to order — oversized, round, square and runner formats included. Interior designers and trade clients can request trade pricing, COM/COL dyeing and CAD-friendly dimensions through our custom rug page.

Care

Weekly vacuuming with the beater bar off, spills blotted (never rubbed) the moment they happen, and a 180° rotation once a year. A wool-safe professional wash every 3–5 years is enough for a lifetime of use, and a felt-and-rubber pad protects the foundation.

FAQs

Is the navy too dark for a small room?
Less than people expect. A dark field visually recedes, so the floor stops competing for attention and the room reads larger — the opposite of what most people assume about deep-toned rugs.

What is the colour variation across the field?
That is abrash — natural variation from wool dyed in small separate batches. It is the clearest signal of a genuinely hand-made rug and the reason this navy has depth where a printed navy sits flat.

How is this different from a washable printed Oushak?
Entirely. Those are digitally printed polyester with a latex or rubber backing. This is hand-tied wool on cotton with no backing at all, which is why it can be reversed, repaired and passed on.

Is it safe for kids and pets?
Yes — 100% natural wool, no latex backing, no synthetic blend. Wool's natural lanolin also makes the surface genuinely stain-resistant.

Do you ship to the USA?
Yes — shipped worldwide from our workshop in India with tracked delivery to all 50 states. See our shipping policy and returns policy.
