Woven new, finished to look like it has been in the family for eighty years. The rose ground is deliberately washed back, the plum and apricot motifs sit low against it, and the whole surface carries the soft tonal drift you normally only find in a genuine antique Oushak. Except this one is new wool, structurally sound, and available in your size.

The Faded Look — and How It Is Achieved Honestly

Antique Oushaks fade because a century of light and washing pulls the colour down unevenly. We get there through low-saturation dye lots and a hand-wash finish rather than harsh chemical stripping — which means the rug is soft in tone without being soft in structure. An overdyed or acid-washed rug looks similar on day one and wears out in a fraction of the time.

  • Antique-inspired, not distressed to death — the pile is full and the foundation is uncompromised
  • Visible abrash — natural tonal drift across the field, the signature of small-batch hand dyeing
  • Grandmillennial and vintage-revival friendly — reads collected rather than bought

Woven by Hand

Made by artisan weaving families in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur belt of northern India, on the same looms and by the same methods used for generations. Roughly 45 days per rug across ten stages, from carding the raw wool to the final hand-clip.

  • 100% New Zealand wool pile on a cotton foundation
  • Approx. 100 knots per square inch (KPSI)
  • Naturally biodegradable, hypoallergenic and flame-resistant fibre
  • No latex, no adhesive, no cloth backing
  • Integrated fringe formed from the warp itself

Styling a Faded Rose Rug

Let it be the oldest-looking thing in the room and everything else reads considered. Works beautifully with dark walnut and mahogany, painted panelling, chintz or ticking stripe, cane and rattan, and unlacquered brass. In a very modern room it does the opposite job — it takes the hard edge off concrete, steel and white plaster.

Custom Sizes & Colourways

Made to order in any size or shape, including oversized, round, square and runner formats. We can also weave this design in a deeper or paler wash if you need it to sit differently against your scheme.

Care

Vacuum weekly without a beater bar, rotate every 6–12 months, blot spills immediately, and always use a rug pad. Professional wash every 3–5 years.

FAQs

Is this an antique rug?
No — it is a new hand-knotted rug woven in an antique-inspired palette. That is deliberate: you get the aged look with a full pile and a sound foundation, at a fraction of the price of a genuine antique.

Will the colour keep fading?
No. The tones are dyed at this level, not stripped down to it, so the rug holds its colour with normal care and out of harsh direct sun.

Why is the colour uneven in places?
That is abrash — the natural variation of hand-dyed wool. It is what separates a handmade rug from a printed one.

Can I see it in another wash?
Yes — we weave to your reference. Send a photo or fabric memo.

How long does it take?
Free tracked US shipping. Made-to-order sizes take roughly 30–45 days, larger pieces 50–65 days.
